Prep home for vacation

Seven Things To Do Before Leaving for Vacation

You’ve got your plane tickets, you’ve planned the perfect travel itinerary, and your bags are packed. It’s about time to head off to your summer vacation! Everything’s just about ready, but before you can relax by the blue waters of Bora Bora or trek on the stunning hikes of Japan, you need to prepare your home for when you’re gone.

Here are seven things to do at home before leaving on vacation.

1. Mow your lawn.

Especially if you will be gone for awhile, it’s best to have the lawn looking trim and taken care of so that it’s not immediately obvious that no one is home.

2. Turn off the lights.

No need to drive up the electric bill!

3. Close your blinds.

You don’t need people looking into your empty house.

4. Unplug appliances and electronics.

Even when not in use, plugged in appliances and electronics still use electricity, thus driving up your electric bill. Unplug some things to save a little money.

5. Set thermostat to 85 degrees.

You may never set the temperature that high when home, but when you’re away, a higher temperature will reduce your electric bill. Furthermore, your home will be safe and fine at 85 degrees.

6. Purge perishable foods.

You won’t want rotting vegetables to deal with when you come home.

7. Lock up.

This is probably the most obvious tip, but make sure you lock up as you leave!

Now, all that’s left is to head out and enjoy your vacation! We hope you enjoy it a little more knowing that everything is alright at home.
