If you live anywhere near Washington County, you know that the county fair is the place to be in August.  From live bears to midget wrestling, the fair has something for everybody.  The fair runs August 9th – 12th and is located in Hurricane.

This year marks the twentieth anniversary of the fair being held at the Washington County fairgrounds. Prior to the fairgrounds, the fair was held at several locations, including the local high school and, at one point, the St. George Tabernacle.  The first fair was organized in 1860 to promote agriculture.  People came from miles around, and they took pride in exhibiting their livestock, vegetables, cotton, and other homemade items.  Today, the fair still brings people together for the opportunity to display their prize vegetables and other accomplishments.  But it also brings people together for entertainment, fun activities, and opportunities for education.  Activities this year include a parade, a half marathon, a horse show, a carnival, a hypnotist, boxing, and fireworks.
